Ear Removal & Attachment
The ears are a soft, flexible silicone material that allows them to be easily removed and replaced. Each ear attaches to 3 nubs on their respective side of the head. Two nubs are at the base of the ear, one at the back of the ear and one at the front of the ear. The third nub is near the middle surface of the ear. To remove, gently peel the ear up from the nub near where the ear meets the back of the head. The ear will then peel away from the nubs.
Pay close attention to which ear is which (i.e. right and left). The ears are not marked, but are asymmetric, meaning the right only fits on the right side, and visa versa.
To replace, paying close attention to orientation, gently loop the lower edge of the ear under the nub closest to the back of the head, then the gently stretch the ear over nub closest to the front of the head. Finally, gently stretch the middle of the ear over the middle nub to fully seat the ear on it's mount.

Tail Removal & Attachment
The tail is a soft, flexible silicone material that allows for easy removal and replacement.
Support the base of the tail with one hand, and gently grasp the tail about 1/2" or 13mm away from the base. Gently pull the tail away from the base and it will begin to slide off of the tail stud. Pay close attention to the orientation of the tail as it's removed - the curvature of the tail matches the curvature of the tail stud.
To replace, support the tail stud with one hand, and gently slide the tail over the stud, making sure to orient the tail so the curvature of the tail is aligned with the tail stud. Push it until the tail seats on the stud, and there is only a small gap (~1mm) between the tail and the base.

caring for leg warmers
Follow this guide to clean dirt and other debris from your leg warmers.
Wash: Fill a small bowl with warm water and a few drops of laundry detergent to prepare a slightly soapy solution. Gently massage the leg warmers in the warm soapy water, taking care not to stretch the leg warmers too much.
Rinse: Empty out the warm soapy water and replace with warm water. Gently massage the leg warmers to rinse out the soapy water.
Dry: Your leg warmers may be laid flat and air dried, or tumble dried inside a small mesh delicates bag. For normal tumble drying, use medium heat (60ºC Exhaust Temp) for 40 minutes. If you'd like to slightly shrink your leg warmers for a tighter fit, you may use high heat (80ºC Exhaust Temp) for 40 minutes.
Iron: It is not recommended to iron the leg warmers. If required, iron inside out with temperature no higher than 135ºC (165ºF, or low heat setting) without steam.

Iron: It is not recommended to iron the scarf. If required, iron from back side (grey side) of the scarf with temperature no higher than 135ºC (165ºF, or low heat setting) without steam.
5-10% Shrinkage is expected when laundering the scarf. The image at left shows an unlaundered scarf (upper) and a laundered scarf (lower).

Replacing Ears: Steps 1-4
The ERS-11x is the first generation aibo and while many are still running and well loved, the rubber on many of the 11x series ears has disintegrated leaving them with just the top portion of the ears remaining.
Tools Required: Spudger or plastic stick and a pair of tweezers
Removing Ears: To remove the ears first remove the inner hub of the ear with a slot in it. The hub pulls straight out of the ear, it does not rotate. Gently hook the tip of your spudger into the slot and pull outward (images 1-2) and the inner hub will slide out.
Second, remove the inner retaining ring with a pair of tweezers. (images 3-4) Take care not to touch the ear microphone with your tweezers as the diaphragm is easily damaged.

Replacing Ears: Steps 5-8
Removing Ears: Remove the top section of the original ear by gently sliding it off the ear nub (images 5-6).
Putting on New Ears: Assemble the new ear by sliding it over the ear nub (image 7), replace the retaining ring and finally snap in the center ear hub.
Your aibo is now complete once again!
